Good Read
Great
Book: "Lord, Save
Us From Your Followers"
by Dan Merchant
(Thomas Nelson) copyright 2008 Subtitle: Why is the
Gospel of Love Dividing America?

Dan Merchant is an Emmy Award winning television
writer/producer.
"Christianity is turning into a bad word in
American society," observes Merchant. "I figured the best way to
get to the bottom of this cultural divide was to talk to the people who
were already in the midst of it." ... Slogans, labels, and sound
bites do not always present the gospel as a loving message. And,
when applied to complex hot-button issues, they stifle heart-to-heart
conversation. If you are frustrated or even embarrassed by the
reputation of Christianity in portions of our culture, Lord, Save Us
from Your Followers serves as a creative, compelling reminder that
one of the best ways to communicate God's love is to listen.
I found this book to be incredible. The
book tells how Dan Merchant went out onto the streets of New York City
late at night - on more than one occasion - and interviewed individuals.
He asked their opinions on quite a few different subjects. (Dan
was dressed up "like a human bumper sticker.") Really a book well
worth reading if you want to connect with the idea of turning a bad word
[Christianity] into a word that people can relate to.

Super Reading:
"The Inner Voice"
by Renee Fleming
(published by Penguin Books, 2004)
(Forward
from the book, "The Inner Voice") "Renee Fleming's vocal artistry
is acclaimed worldwide as "the gold standard of soprano sound."
And international artist for more than a decade, she is recognized for
her compelling artistry, beautiful sound, and interpretive talents.
A sought-after performer onstage and in recordings, she has won two
Grammys and has been nominated eight times for the award."
A well known name in Opera,
Renee Fleming shows us a glimpse of how she came to be one of the
premiere singers of our time. Ms. Fleming has spent a lifetime in music.
Her mother and father were both musicians and showed Renee that if she
had both talent and hard work, and put the two together, she could
accomplish anything. Early on Renee abandoned the idea of a family
and concentrated solely on her "life's call."
This book can give some very
insightful ideas to musicians, and it is a wonderful look into the life
of a singer among singers. Recommended reading.

Beautiful:
"Hymns for a Kid's Heart"
by Bobbie Wolgemuth and Joni Eareckson Tada (published by
Crossway
Books; a division of Good News Publishers, 2003)
A collection of stories
about twelve hymns of the past. The book comes with a CD.
The hymns are sung by children and the accompaniment has a beautiful full
orchestration in the background. This book is part of a series
called
"Hymns for a Kid's Heart."
Each book gives important
background information on each hymn and each book in the series comes
with a CD of the songs. Definitely a must for anyone who has
children who love to sing and it will help to instill the important
traditions of churches everywhere, especially that hymns matter.
(Note from the publisher) "The
publishers' share of income from "Hymns for a Kid's Heart" compact disc
is being donated by Good News Publishers/Crossway Books to Joni and
Friends, the worldwide disability outreach of Joni Eareckson Tada.
For more information about Joni and Friends, please write to Joni and
Friends, Post Office Box 3333, Agoura Hills, California 91301
or call (818) 707-5664." or go to the website -
www.joniandfriends.org
Joni Eareckson Tada is a quadriplegic who
gives of her time and talents as an artist and has been a part of many
groups that promote and equip people for disability awareness in the
Christian church. She is joined in her efforts by her husband,
Ken Tada.

Mark's
Cash Pawn
Tel. (505) 872-8330
Though
we do not usually go into pawn shops as a whole, this shop is incredible
and the owner has been very helpful in purchasing instruments. We have been doing business with Mark for
over ten
years now and we found out one thing: Mark knows his band
instruments. He played trumpet as well as drums and carries a
good selection of guitars and other stringed instruments as
well.
He has electric guitars, drums, bass
guitars, as well as the above mentioned instruments. He is more
than fair in his prices, and will work with you as well as help you find
just what you are looking for in a quality instrument.
We highly recommend Mark's shop as one
of the best used instrument shops in Albuquerque. Thumbs up!
